If I don't look through a viewfinder for three days I get cranky. I am a lens junkie - born and raised in Africa where I learnt my profession as an International Television Cameraman. In 1989, as a runner on a feature film, I looked through the viewfinder of a 16mm film camera for the first time and was hooked. Like looking at life through million dollar eyes. Assisting in camera departments in the broadcast and commercial industry led to me becoming a Director of Photography - but fate took me elsewhere. I filmed my first news shoot - hooked again. This time on capturing the truth of the moment - where often you only have one chance to get the shot.
I sacrificed much to follow my calling in the war zones of Africa and beyond. A talent for covering conflict saw me focussed on that for many years, working for the international news agencies and broadcasters. I moved on to Reality, Documentary, Wildlife and Humanitarian projects. Credits include the 'Amazing Race' and 'Wild Things'. Clients include the United Nations and the Discovery Channel.
I am extremely privileged to be a traveller. With visits to almost 70 countries on this beautiful and diverse planet of ours. Travel has taught me that we are all so very different, yet identical. We are individual - but remain connected. When not chasing video I slow down to shoot photos of the earth, my family, wildlife, birds, travel. When I get the chance I take my family into Africa, letting them experience our magical continent.
I have published a number of eBooks, for kids on nature and travel. My first memoir from my International TV News work, "Bad Man's Corner - Cameraman in a Liberian War", is available on platforms like Amazon, ibooks, Barnes & Noble, Lulu, Smashwords and more.
